How do I deposit a check to my account?

If you’ve just received a check and wish to add the funds to your PODERcard account, you’re in luck. There’s an easy way to do so with our Mobile Check Deposit feature, and the best part? It's free!

Below you’ll find instructions on how to do so. However, before you get started you must first ensure the following:

• You’ve activated your card

• You’ve received four direct deposits in the last 70 days, one of which was in the last 15 (i.e last payroll cycle). You've also made a purchase with your PODERcard in the last 30 days. If you haven’t set up a direct deposit yet, learn how to do so here.

If you do not receive direct deposit from an employer, you can instead deposit a check into your PODERcard by cashing and loading it at a Walmart Money Center. For more information, see our FAQ on check cashing here.

Not payable to you (even if signed over to you) Payable to more than one person (even if you are one of the names on the check) Payable to "Cash" or "Self" Payable in a foreign currency Drawn on a bank outside the U.S. That are not dated, are postdated, or more than 90 days old That are irregular in any way (for example, where the numerical and written amounts are different) That have previously been cashed or deposited (either in paper form or electronically) or returned unpaid for any reason You suspect to be fraudulent, forged, altered or not properly authorized That do not have the signature of the person who wrote you the check   That exceed the deposit limits set for mobile deposits

Step 1. Go to the Payments tab at the bottom and make sure you’re in the Add Funds section. Once there, select the Check Deposit option at the bottom. 

Step 2. Enter the check amount. Important Note! You can make mobile deposits for up to $1,000 per check, three times a day. However, this cannot exceed a total of $5,000 over a rolling 30-day period. These limits are subject to change at any time. 

Step 3. Take a photo of the front of the check. Make sure to place the check on a smooth background that is well lit and position check within the frame of the camera. 

Step 4. Click on “Accept Picture” once you’re sure it’s well centered and all the details are visible.  

Step 5. Go through the same process for the back of the check. Important Note! Make sure to sign the back of the check before taking the picture. 

Step 6. Double check all the information and images you’ve uploaded, then select “Deposit” to confirm and begin the process. Important note! Once you submit a deposit, it cannot be canceled.

Step 7. You’ve successfully completed the deposit! Now, keep in mind that the deposit could appear in your account as fast as one business day, but some checks may take up to 5 business days, so do not worry if you don’t see it right away. Once the funds are in your account you'll get a notification letting you know. 

How long should I keep my check after I submit it?

Keep your check in a safe place until the money is in your account before destroying it in case it is needed for verification purposes. Important note! Once you deposit a check with us, you can’t cash it anywhere else.
